It’s time. The last Reds stats leaders post- ever- as the Ancient City Reds have come to an end. It’s time to see who lit up what stats and who finished strong.
As always, these stats come from an inconsistent Gamechanger source, so take a grain of salt while reading them. No, don’t actually eat plain salt. That’s gross.
OFFENSE
Batting Average (Min 40 ABs)
- Brendan Roberts- .623
- Eli Norquist- .407
- Patrick Halloran- .323
- Possibly Roberts’ greatest offensive season yet; a .623 batting average in 13u is nearly unheard of, and rare. Only one other hitter hit above .400, and that would be Eli Norquist. Having Roberts- Norquist back- to- back in the second and third spots of the lineup was lethal, and it makes sense that Roberts led the team in RBIs while Norquist led in runs, with Roberts to drive them in.
On Base Percentage (Min 30 PAs)
- Brendan Roberts- .667
- Patrick Halloran- .571
- Matthew Skorstad .500
- Unfairly, Roberts wins this stat, even though his OBP was ironically just 44 points higher than his BAA. Halloran was a ball magnet, collecting 11 hit by pitches in 20 games. Skorstad, who only hit .290, led the team in walks (10), and found interesting ways on base.
Slugging pct (Min 30 ABs)
- Brendan Roberts- .755
- Patrick Halloran- .452
- Eli Norquist- .407
- These three hitters dominated offensively, together leading the team in SLG and AVG.
Runs Batted In
- Brendan Roberts- 14
- Tyce Erwin- 13
- Patrick Halloran- 12
- Being a middle- lineup hitter makes winning this stat easy. The Reds’ lineup plan was smart but simple: Norquist and Rodriguez gets on, Roberts drives them in, Erwin drives them in, and it resets with the next batter. Clearly, the plan worked as wanted.
Quality At- Bat Precentage (Min 30 ABs)
- Gabe Crozier- 63.41
- Hayden Perryman- 54.35
- Brendan Roberts- 53.33
- This stat is rarely used, but i love it, because it shows who truly is the most consistent hitter. Crozier struck out 0 times- none- this season, yet finished with a .242 batting average. Crozier worked counts, and put the ball in play, but just couldn’t find a way on base. Perryman, on the other hand, came second with 7 strikeouts this year (Halloran, Skorstad), but walked ten times and worked counts hard with plenty of foul balls.
Stolen Bases
- Brendan Roberts- 22
- Alejandro Rodriguez- 18
- Liam Tarr- 14
- Tarr surprised us with his speed this season, after stealing only 8 bags in 34 games last year. Roberts, after finishing second last year (Boyce, 55) with 32 SBs in 41 games, came in and almost stole the same amount- in less than half the games (20). Do the math and you’ll find, he was on pace for 45 bags in a full 41 games.
PITCHING
ERA
- Tyce Erwin- 3.58
- Patrick Halloran 5.68
- Gabe Crozier- 6.39
- Pitching was definitely not a strength for the Reds in this season, with just one guy below the 4.0 mark. Erwin served as a closer/ high- leverage reliever, and did an incredible job, while Halloran returned from injury as the ace of the team and Crozier finished his Reds career with a strong season.
Ks
- Brendan Roberts- 21
- Patrick Halloran- 17
- Gabe Crozier- 14
- Maybe the most exciting pitching stat, Roberts wins this one with his high FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching), where his Ks and BBs controlled his ERA.
FIP
- Patrick Halloran 2.57
- Brendan Roberts- 4.72
- Gabe Crozier- 4.83
- For those unfamiliar with it, this stat basically shows which pitchers rely the least on the 7 guys behind them- Ks, BBs, and HRs. Halloran has gone from a contact- defense based guy to a K/BB king. Roberts dropped from an absolutely incredible 1.00 FIP last year (which is almost unheard of) to a 4.72 FIP after his shaky start to this season.
OTHER STATS
Fielding Pct (Min 20 TC)
- Eli Norquist- .971
- Brendan Roberts- .922
- Alejandro Rodriguez- .917
-Fielding was a huge issue this season for the Reds, but these three guys took charge of the 9.
CS%
- Eli Norquist- 17.78%
- Landon Wilhelm- 5.88%
- Only 2 catchers even qualified for this stat, and one of them (Wilhelm) only played for one tournament. Norquist behind the plate put on a clinic with Roberts at shortstop, throwing out 8 runners.
Overall, Roberts and Halloran decided to paste their names everywhere on the list, on both sides of the ball, while Skorstad and Crozier surprised us with some very interesting stats. Erwin led the pitching staff, while Roberts carried offensively, and Norquist commanded defensively, taking control of catching, a position he only played a 4th-place 6 innings of last year (Witt, 126.2 innings, Boyce, 59.1 innings, Crozier, 6.1 innings)
