Looking for a fun, competitive 13u baseball tournament in northeast Florida?

Looking for some fun baseball to go watch in Northeast Florida?

Then you need to read this page!

The Reds are hosting a fundraiser in November inspired by the Savannah Banana’s Banana Ball. This will be a fun round robin event that will be all fun for players, parents, and siblings alike!

The idea was brought up by Reds official Veronica Roberts and has since grown into a full idea. We are still planning, but if you want to get more info as it comes, we are going to update this page frequently.

We are still planning, but for now, this is what we have:

General Information

Date TBD

Time TBD

Entry/ Sign Up TBD

Date- Sometime in November

For Family/ Fans

  • Concessions will be available on site
  • Goodie bags will be sold at the concession stand
  • Children may run around, but heads up for foul balls!

For Players

This whole thing is for fun.

If you participate- don’t worry about the score. Dance, play, and if you are hardcore like me, hit a trick play. Everyone loves trick plays, plus, it may give you an extra point (read rules below.) Wether it’s as simple as a bucket catch, or as complex as the world famous Iron Lotus catch (doubt anyone will do THAT), we want to see it. Dance. Catch. Hit. Just don’t bunt.

50/50 Raffle

Remember, we are still planning this event. We are discussing a 50/50 raffle, where half may go to charity or the tournament host. The other half? It’s yours!

Reds Backwards Banana Ball Bash – Official Rules

General Rules

  • Backwards Ball is in play.
  • No Stepping Out & No Bunting.
    • If you bunt → you’re out, and all runners return to their previous base.
    • If you step out → the ball becomes live. The batter may attempt to steal first, but runners may not advance. If there’s already a runner on first, the batter is automatically out.
  • No mound visits. If a new pitcher is needed, simply announce the change.
  • Catchers cannot call time.
  • 1-hour time limit. No new inning starts after the clock expires, but any inning already underway must be finished.

Scoring System

  • Each inning is worth 1 point.
    • Whichever team scores more runs in an inning wins the inning and gets the point.
    • In the final inning, every run counts toward the total score, not just the inning win.

Special Game Features

  • Dizzy Dizzy Baseball is used to decide the home team before first pitch.
  • Dance Before You Steal. Any runner attempting a steal must first perform a dance move.
  • Trick Plays Encouraged. At the end of the game, the umpire selects the best trick play. The player’s team earns 1 bonus point.
  • No Walks. On ball four:
    • The batter sprints while the defense must touch the ball to every single defensive player before it becomes live.
    • The batter can advance as far as possible during this time.
    • The ball does not have to go to the pitcher or catcher.
  • Stealing First. At any time during an at-bat, if there’s a passed ball or wild pitch, the hitter may sprint to first (like a dropped third strike).
    • If the defense tags him out or records a force at first, the batter is out.
  • No Pickoffs. Pitchers may step off and throw, but inside moves, spins, or pick-to-third moves are illegal.

Tiebreaker Showdown Rules

If the game is tied after 5 innings or 1 hour, a Showdown Tiebreaker is used.

  1. Away Team Goes First
    • Away team sends one batter.
    • Home team provides one pitcher, one catcher, and one fielder (positioned anywhere in fair territory).
  2. At-Bat Rules
    • No balls or strikes.
    • Batter swings until he hits a fair ball.
  3. Scoring Attempt
    • Batter must circle all bases and touch home plate.
    • Defense must tag him with the ball before he scores.
    • Tagged before home → No run.
    • Scores safely → 1 run for batting team.
  4. Home Team’s Turn
    • Home team sends up a batter, away team provides the pitcher, catcher, and fielder.
  5. If Still Tied
    • If both score or both fail, the showdown repeats — but with no fielder (just pitcher and catcher).
    • Continue until one team scores and the other doesn’t.

The Reds are in the earliest stages of planning for a possible fundraising tournament run by the Reds, with the hopes of making it a fun, semi- competitive 13u tournament in St. Augustine with rules similar to banana ball. The Reds have minor connections to the now world- famous Savannah Bananas, and have reached out to owner Jesse Cole.

Please note this is in the earliest stages of development and no information has been released.
